Two killed in Habiganj clash over mosque committee formation

Additional police have been deployed in the area

Two people have been killed and 25 others injured in a clash between two rival groups over the formation of a mosque’s committee and changing its imam in Habiganj’s Bahubal.

The deceased are Motin Mia and Kabir Mia.

The injured have been admitted to Bahubal Upazila Health Complex.

According to police, two groups of villagers had a longstanding dispute over committee formation of a mosque and changing its imam. During the Jummah prayers on Friday, Mugkandi village’s Sohel Mia locked in an altercation with Shafik Master that resulted in a clash.

Following Friday’s clash, the two groups engaged in another clash on Saturday morning that left two people dead and 25 injured.

Being informed, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Bahubal police station Officer-in-Charge Mazharul Islam said additional police were deployed in the area.

Police were trying to catch the culprits, said the officer.
