Goods looted from Gobindaganj Santal village seized by police

Update : 07 Aug 2017, 06:11 PM
Some household items and tin sheets, which were allegedly looted during an attack on the Santal village near Rangpur Sugar Mill in Gaibandha's Gobindaganj upazila last year, have been recovered by police. A team of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) launched a drive in the area and seized the items from several houses at 12pm on Monday. The drive was ongoing till the filing of the report around 3pm. The law enforcers will make a list of the seized items after completing the drive and take legal steps against those involved in the looting, said PBI Additional Superintendent of Police Anwar Hossain. The drive was undertaken based on information that some of the tin sheets, shallow machines and other items, that were stolen from the Santal homes on November 6, 2016, could be found in the possession of some locals, he added. Three Santal men were killed in a series of clashes on that day, following an attempt by workers of Rangpur Sugar Mill to evict the Santals from the mill area with the help of law enforcers.  This article was first published on Bangla Tribune
