Three Indians deported after end of jail term

Hili immigration police check-post's Officer-in-Charge Aftab Hossain handed them over the his Indian counterpart Najir Hossain

Three Indian nationals, including a child, have been sent back home after serving jail terms for 14 months in Bangladesh for illegal entry.

The deported Indians are Sima Mahato, 35, her son Subrata Mahato, 8, and Purnina Mahato, 50. They hail from Madla area in West Bengal.

Hili immigration police check-post’s Officer-in-Charge Aftab Hossain handed them over the his Indian counterpart Najir Hossain around 11am Tuesday.

Earlier, Sima told the Dhaka Tribune that they had entered Bangladesh with the help of brokers through Hili border to visit their relatives in Rajshahi’s Godagari on March 31 last year.

“We were detained by the members of Border Guard Bangladesh while on our way to Rajshahi,” she said.

Meanwhile, OC Aftab said that a case had been filed against the trio under the Passport Act and kept in Dinajpur jail.
