Local Awami League members aggrieved over Ujjal’s death

An Awami League activist has been killed in election violence in Kushtia.

The deceased, Ujjal Pramanik, 35, was allegedly attacked and killed by members of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSoD).

The incident occurred yesterday around 7pm in the Mirpur upazila of the district.

Mirpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC), Abul Kalam, confirmed the incident.

The OC said: “Preliminary investigation revealed that he died due to his heart suddenly stopping. We will be able to determine the exact cause of death after the autopsy report comes in.”

Local Awami League members are aggrieved over Ujjal’s death.

The third phase of the upazila polls peacefully began in six upazila’s of Kushtia on Sunday.

Around 7pm, Awami League chairman candidate Kamarul Arefin won against JaSoD’s Farukuzzaman. To celebrate, members of Jubo League brought out a victory rally. When the rally reached the Hazi Wahed area, Chitholia Union’s JaSoD General Secretary Habibur Rahman allegedly threw a heavy stone at the procession.  The stone hit Ujjal, and he fell to the ground.

Ujjal was admitted to the upazila healthcare center in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead.
