These students are harming the reputation of the university, protesting students say
Dhaka University (DU) students have held a protest in the campus demanding that the university dissociate itself with its seven affiliated colleges.
Hundreds of students demonstrated at the base of the Raju Sculpture ojn Thursday morning.
Protesters claimed that the students of these colleges were identifying themselves as students of Dhaka
University, but their misconducts were damaging the reputation of the institution.
Under the arrangement, only their curriculum has been brought under DU, the protesters said.
Jubair Ahmed, a final year student of history department, said: “The students of these seven colleges are engaging in various misdeeds, and then flaunting DU’s name, which is a matter of shame to us.”
They also demanded that vehicles without university stickers be restricted inside the campus.
They held a demo at Raju sculpture and then took a procession towards the vice chancellor’s office. Outside the office, the protesters spoke to the university proctor.
“The proctor has assured us that he will convey our grievances to the VC and that necessary steps will be taken,” said Moshiur Rahman Sadik, the convener of the demo.
The government has affiliated Dhaka College, Eden Women’s College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Mohila
College, Mirpur Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College with Dhaka University.
