Leaders and activists of Keraniganj unit BNP and Jubo Dal's south city unit took out the procession at Naya Paltan on Monday
Leaders and activists of Keraniganj unit BNP and its youth front Jubo Dal's Dhaka south city unit took out a torch procession at Dhaka’s Naya Paltan area demanding release of its Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
The procession began in front of the party's central office around 6pm on Monday, reports UNB.
In a brief address after the procession, Rizvi said they brought out the torch procession demanding their chairperson's release.
Rizvi said: "Our program is also meant for registering our protest against the misdeeds and unfair activities of the current government. BNP leaders and activists are now ready to hold any protest program against the government."
Referring to Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif's comment that Khaleda Zia will have to stay in jail for life, Rizvi said it manifested that their chairperson was imprisoned at the behest of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He alleged that the government plunged the country into darkness by destroying democracy, snatching people's freedom of expression, and sending Khaleda Zia to jail.
"We will surely free our leader Khaleda Zia and restore democracy in the country," he added.
