Information Minister Hasan Mahmud has said there is nothing called Islamic State (IS) in Bangladesh.

“There is nothing called IS in Bangladesh. IS claims responsibility when a tyre of a vehicle explodes, and also when a handmade cocktail bomb explodes. I do not know who spreads such information,” the minister said while speaking to journalists at his Secretariat office on Sunday.

Replying to queries regarding Krishna Roy Chowdhury, the BIWTA staff who lost one of her legs in a recent road accident, the minister said: “What happened to Krishna is very traumatic. I have heard that she was on the side of the road. Therefore, I would like to ask bus owners not to use helpers [bus conductors] to drive their vehicles. I want that those who were responsible for the incident should be punished.”

The minister also said: “Rumors are being spread regarding development projects undertaken by the government. I want that the issue to be solved in the social media.”
