Minister to DCs: Ensure paddy procurement directly from farmers

He also said the administration is ready to tackle any crisis regarding the flood situation

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder has directed deputy commissioners to ensure procurement of paddy directly from farmers to meet the government's target.

He made the directives at the first session of the third day of the ongoing Deputy Commissioners' Conference at the Cabinet Division, on Tuesday.

"The government will buy 400,000 metric tons of paddy from farmers during the current boro season. However, we procured 100,000 metric tons till Monday," the minister said while talking to reporters after the session.

He also said the deputy commissioners were helping procure paddy from farmers.

Sadhan Chandra said an office of the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority will be opened in every district to ensure that people get safe food.

Asked about the food crisis following the current flood in different districts, the minister said there is no crisis. "We have enough food grains in stock. We are ready to face any situation."
