Laboratory services at icddr,b will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year from Monday, said a press release issued on the same day.
This initiative will inevitably distribute the patient volume throughout the day, and effectively reduce their waiting time.
icddr,b laboratories are the only labs in Bangladesh that are accredited under International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 15189 (quality and competence), and ISO 15190 (safety) for more than 400 different tests and parameters, the release further stated.
Marking the occasion, icddr,b Laboratory Sciences and Services Division Senior Director Dr Niyaz Ahmed, said: "While this extension of operation will cost us additional resources, we would like to make our services more accessible to all walks of life.
"Our highly skilled, and dedicated scientists and clinicians, along with state of the art laboratories, will now be able to serve more patients with high quality diagnosis, for which they have always been relied upon."
