Gas supply in these areas will be suspended for 12 hours starting 8pm Thursday

The gas supply in western Dhaka and parts of Savar will be suspended for 12 hours, due to emergency maintenance work at the Gas Transmission Company Limited’s Amin Bazar station.

The gas outage will start from 8pm on Thursday, a press statement released by Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd (TGTDCL) said.

Supplies in Dhaka's Gabtoli, Darus Salam, Mirpur, Mirpur DOHS, Kallyanpur, Paikpara, Monipur, Shyamoli, Adabor, Agargaon, Ganabhaban, Mohammadpur, Shukrabad, Dhanmondi, Jhigatola, Hazaribagh, Lalbagh, Nawabganj, Kamrangirchar and adjacent areas will remain suspended.

TGTDCL is currently facing a gas shortfall of at least 300mmcfd (million standard cubic feet per day) against a demand of around 2,200mmcfd. In the Dhaka metropolitan area alone, the demand is around 1,700mmcfd.

With 2,783,134 consumers, including 44 power plants, 1,630 captive power producers, and 5,128 industrial units, TGTDCL supplies gas in eight categories to the Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions.

Households supplied by the state-run gas company are estimated to number 2,764,247, while the number of commercial users stands at 11,688.
