BIWTA drive to evict illegal structures continues today

198 illegal establishments demolished on Tuesday

The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has continued its drive for the second day to evict illegal structures along the banks of the River Buriganga in Dhaka.

The drive started from the Gokulchar area under Keraniganj police station toward the Telghat via Babubazar from 9am to 5pm Wednesday.

Earlier on Tuesday, the BIWTA evicted a total of 198 illegal establishments and two acres of grabbed river bank while an eviction drive was held along the river in Keraniganj, reports BSS.

The authority as per the instruction of the shipping ministry, conducted the drive from the east side of Kholamora launch ghat to Mandail Gokulchar at the south bank of the river toward Babubazar bridge under the Dhaka river port.

During the drive, establishments including a three-storey building, 13 two-storey buildings, 37 one-storey buildings, 85 semi-paka houses, 17 boundary walls and 45 corrugated iron sheet houses were demolished.
