9 killed and 15 injured in road accidents

The accidents occurred between Tuesday evening and Wednesday afternoon

At least eight people have been killed and fifteen others injured in road accidents across the country.

In Dhaka, a man was killed and three others were injured when a bus hit an auto-rickshaw in Mohammadpur Beribadh early on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Tofazzal Hossain, 60, an auto-rickshaw driver from Batenbari village of Bhola's Borhanuddin upazila.

Bacchu Mia, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police camp, said the accident took place around 4:30am when a bus rammed the auto-rickshaw heading towards Dhanmondi.

The driver and three passengers were injured in the accident.

Later, they were taken to a local hospital where doctors pronounced Tofazzal dead around 6am.

In Kushtia, one was killed and twelve others injured in a road accident in Kuthibari of Khoksa upazila on Wednesday. The deceased, Mussaddek Ali Sheikh, 36, was an official of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) and a resident of Komolapur, Khoksa upazila.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khoksa police station, Mehedi Masud, said: "The bus lost control and crashed into a ditch on the Kushtia-Rajbari highway killing Musaddek on the spot and injuring twelve others. We rescued the injured and sent them to Khoksa Upazila Health Complex.

In Pabna, a man and his nephew were killed when their motorbike collided with a human hauler at Circuit House in Sadar upazila on Wednesday.

The deceased are Hafez Walid, 22, son of Amin Pramanik, and Pranta Hossain, 16, son of Shafiq Pramanik of Balrampur village of the upazila.

Police said the accident took place around 10am when the motorbike Walid and Pranta were riding collided head-on with a human hauler.

They died on the spot, said Obaidul Haq, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.

In Naogaon, three motorcycle riders were killed in an accident in Mohadevpur upazila of Naogaon.

Their motorcycles collided head-on with a truck near the Mahishbathan intersection in the upazila around 9:30pm on Tuesday.

The identities of the deceased have yet to be determined.

Mohadevpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC), Sazzad Hossain, said: “The three motorcyclists were on their way to Mahishbathan bazaar, when a Mohadevpur-bound truck rammed into them, leaving the three dead on the spot.”

In Rangpur, an elderly man was killed in a road accident in front of Taraganj Upazila Health Complex on the Rangpur-Dinajpur highway in Taraganj upazila of the district on Wednesday.

The deceased, Mohammad Adel Badsha, 60, was the son of late Khoyer Ullah of nearby Ghonirampur Dangapara village, in Kursha union of Taraganj upazila.

The accident occurred when a Dinajpur bound night coach from Dhaka hit the man, killing him on the spot while he was crossing the road this morning, police said.

Taraganj Highway police station Officer-in-Charge (OC), Abdullah Hel Baki, said: "The vehicle fled the scene soon after the mishap and we are trying to arrest the driver.”

In Chuadanga, a one-year-old child named Junayed was killed in a road accident in Hardi Pan Bazar of Alamdanga upazila on Wednesday.

The accident occurred when a motorcycle with Junayed and his parents on it, collided head-on with a tractor, crushing and killing Junayed on the spot.

Alamdanga police station's OC, Asadujjaman Munshi, confirmed the accident.
