Launches have started leaving Sadarghat with homebound passengers for the upcoming Eid.
A total of 28 launches have left Sadarghat for various destinations in Bangladesh, till 2pm on Saturday.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Traffic Inspector Dinesh kumer Shaha said, "There is neither overloading [of the ships], nor a rush today. Everything is going quite smoothly."
A total of 97 launches will leave Sadarghat today on 43 different routes. It is estimated that 1,000,000 people will leave for their homes from Sadarghat between June 1-5, he added.
The tickets are being sold at the regular rate.
Noman (28)—a young man going to Hatia from Sadarghat by MV Farhan—said: "I hired a single cabin at Tk1200, the usual amount charged on regular days of the year."
