Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday said the next national budget will be placed in Parliament on June 13, and it will be over Tk 5 lakh crore.
"We placed a Tk 4.64 lakh crore budget for the current fiscal year . We will place the new budget in parliament on June 13, and hopefully it will be over Tk 5 lakh crore," she said while addressing an iftar party arranged for leaders of different political parties at her official residence Ganabhaban, reports UNB.
Highlighting various steps taken by her government for the country's development, she said the benefits of development are reaching the grassroots.
"We are making all necessary arrangements so that everyone can lead a decent life, with access to food, clothes, housing, education and medical care," Sheikh Hasina said.
“Power is not something to enjoy. Rather, it is an opportunity to serve the people. Following this ideology, I have been working for the development of the country, and the people are feeling the results," she added.
"Our aim is to ensure the fruits of independence reach every house, so that every person gets a decent life," the prime minister further said, mentioning that 93% of the country’s people now have electricity coverage.
"We have brought down the poverty rate to 21% from 41%, and slashed the extreme poverty rate to 11%. Hopefully, there will be no extreme poor in the country soon,” Sheikh Hasina added.
