3 held with counterfeit money in Dhaka

DB seized around Tk 4,600,000 worth of counterfeit currency

Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has detained three people, belonging to a counterfeit currency maker ring, from Kamrangichar and Chawkbazar area in Dhaka.

DB members conducted a drive in the area on Friday, and seized around Tk4,600,000 worth of counterfeit notes from the detainees, Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of DMP, said.

The detainees are: Jibon alias Sobuj, 28, Jamal Uddin, 32, and Babul alias Babu, 24.

Masudur said: "Acting on a tip-off, a team of DB (south division) conducted a drive in a house in East Rasulpur of Kamrangirchar, around 5pm, and busted a money counterfeiting factory."

Initially, DB arrested Sobuj and Jamal with Tk700,000. Then, after primary interrogation, DB conducted a raid at a house in Chawkbazar area around 7:30pm, and arrested Babu, Masudur added.

DB recovered one laptop, two printers, and Tk3,868,000 from Babu, the deputy commissioner said.

"The ring also supply their counterfeit money to different districts, including Dhaka, Chittagong, and Khulna," he said. 

Legal action will be taken against them soon, Masudur said.
