A woman committed suicide in the Golapbagh area of Dhaka yesterday after drugging her two children and hacking her husband over his alleged affair.
Jochna Begum, 32, attacked 45-year-old Abu Sayeed Shapan and drugged their two children Ifti, 14, and Zoha, 7, before taking her own life.
At around 1pm, relatives broke down their front door and rushed the family to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where the doctor pronounced Jochna dead.
Her husband and two children were admitted for treatment, although the children were later discharged.
“According to relatives, the couple were having a dispute because of the husband’s affair with another woman,” Jatrabari police station OC Wazed Ali said.
“They had a quarrel over this last night (Thursday) and this is why Jochna took such a measure.”
The OC said Jochna’s body was sent to the DMC morgue for autopsy.
“The children were given treatment and sent home but the husband is still in the hospital,” the OC said.
According to Jochna’s cousin, Abdul karim, the family is from Monohardi of Narsingdi and Sayeed is a manager at a clothing shop on Bailey Road.
