The Prize distribution ceremony of Bishwa Sahitya Kendra’s book reading program ‘Utkarsha’ commenced at Shikha Chirantan, Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka.
Over 6,000 students from different educational institutions of Dhaka city who were part of the reading program’s 2017 session received prizes, said a press release issued on Friday.
Poet Kamal Abu Naser Chowdhury, writer and columnist Prof Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, litterateur and journalist Imdadul Haque Milon, Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping Md Abdus Samad, actor and writer Khairul Alam Sabuj, writer and deputy editor of Daily Prothom Alo Anisul Haque, Grameenphone’s Director of Stakeholder Relations SM Raihan Rashid, and Bishwa Sahitya Kendra’s Founder President Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed were present at the inauguration ceremony.
Prof Abu Sayeed in his opening speech called book reading a weapon for building the nation, and said: “I believe that those who are present today and receiving prizes for reading books have a very superior mental strength than others.”
The book reading competition was arranged with assistance from Grameenphone.
SM Raihan Rashid congratulated the students for making this book reading competition a success.
“Grameenphone is proud to have been involved with this great initiative for over a decade,” he said.
