Security in the city will be tightened, says the DMP chief
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will restrict traffic on some streets in the capital around and leading to Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi-32 on August 15, the National Mourning Day.
DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia told a press briefing on Sunday that security will also be beefed up around the capital on the day.
He said no vehicles will be allowed on the roads from Karwan Bazar intersection, City College and Dhanmondi-27 to Russell Square that day.
VVIPs, VIPs and top military and civil officers will have to enter Dhanmondi-32 through the street next to Metro Shopping Centre. They will take the same road for leaving.
The general people and other political, social and cultural organisations will have to enter Dhanmondi-32 from the east and leave through the west.
They, however, will have to wait at Kalabagan playground until the VVIPs and VIPs leave.
Roadside parking will not be allowed from Russell Square to Sobhanbagh mosque.
Additional security measures would also be in place at the museum and Banani Graveyard so that the people can pay their respects to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other victims of the 1975 carnage on the National Mourning Day, said the DMP chief.
He said all movements in these spots will be covered by CCTV cameras and no one with any handbags will be allowed to enter. Plainclothesmen will also be posted in those areas.
Check-posts will be set up at Dhanmondi-32 and surrounding areas. Police will also conduct random stop-and-searches if necessary, said Asaduzzaman Mia.
