Rickshaw puller killed in Dhanmondi road accident

A drunk driver lost control of his car and hit a rickshaw, leaving the puller critically injured

A rickshaw puller has been killed after a private car rammed into a rickshaw in Dhaka’s Dhamondi area.

The deceased is identified as Rojob Ali, 50.

Dhanmondi police station duty officer, Sub-Inspector (SI) Mosammat Hasina Akhter said the incident took place near Kidney Hospital at Dhanmondi area around 9pm on Thursday.

“The car’s driver, Kazi Saddam Shahnewaj, 28, was drunk and lost control over the steering and hit the rickshaw, leaving the rickshaw puller, Rojob critically injured.

“Later, Rojob was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead,” SI Hasina said.

She said police nabbed the driver Saddam and seized the car soon after the accident.

Saddam is son of industrialist Kazi Hasnat. He resides in an apartment in Dhanmondi area.

A case has also been lodged with Dhanmondi police station, the SI added.
