A young woman has been gang-raped multiple times, after she was locked inside a bus counter for four days, near the Burimari land port in Lalmonirhat.
The 28-year-old survivor was raped inside the bus counter of Jashoda Paribahan by men, who happened to be members of the local units of the Swechchasebak League and Jubo League.
A rape case was filed against four people at the Paatgram police station on Thursday.
Earlier, based on a tip-off, police raided the bus counter and rescued the victim from inside, and arrested one at the same time, Paatgram police station OC Mansur Ali confirmed.
Later, the woman filed a rape case accusing four people including Rezaul Islam with Paatgram police station.
The arrestee Rezaul, 35, is the general secretary of Swechchasebak League’s Paatgram unit and an employee of Jashoda Paribahan. He is the son of Sirajul Islam of Burimari union’s Munglibari area.
According to police and local sources, the victim went to the bus station on Monday to visit India. Later the victim was tricked and locked inside the counter where she was raped multiple times by Reazul, a Jubo League leader and two others.
On Thursday morning, passersby heard a woman crying inside the locked counter and informed the police about it.
During the primary interrogation of Rezaul and information from the victim, police found involvements of four men in the incident.
Confirming the matter, OC Mansur said: “We were able to arrest Rezaul red-handed and rescued the victim from the crime scene. We are conducting an operation at the moment to arrest the other accused.”
Lalmonirhat Superintendent of Police SM Rashidul Haque said: “The victim was tricked by the culprits into making her think they were processing her documents needed to go to India.
“The woman was later sent to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital for treatment.”
