The father of a 17-year-old teenager from Bhola filed a case on Monday accusing a physician of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) of raping his daughter.

According to the case statement, dermatologist Dr Riyad Siddique, who has a private practice at Jamuna Medical Services in Bhola on the weekends, groped and raped the 12th grader patient on multiple occasions last year in the name of treating her.

The victim on Tuesday gave her judicial statement before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nurun Nahar Yasmin in the case, which was filed at Shahbagh police station.

On one occasion on December 29, the father alleged that the dermatologist even threatened to make some compromising photographs public, which he captured while raping the girl, if she ever mentioned the matter to anyone.

The next day, after duping the girl’s family into coming to Dhaka and meeting the physician at BSMMU in the name of advanced treatment, Riyad made another attempt to rape the girl, which, according to case statement, he failed to execute.

Shahbagh police station Sub-Inspector Ripon said Dr Riyaad was currently on the run.
