Zidan had rejected a proposal to begin an illicit relationship with Abu Bakar
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Wednesday arrested the suspected murderer of 12-year-old madrasa student Mohammad Zidan from the Sadarghat area of Dhaka.
The arrestee was identified as Md Abu Bakar, 16.
The body of Zidan, son of Hafiz Uddin, was recovered from the septic tank of Madinatul Madrasa near Ahad Police Box of Gulistan in the early hours of Monday. The child’s throat had been slit.
Zidan’s father filed a case with Paltan Police Station accusing Abu Bakar, another student of the educational institution, of the killing on the same day.
RAB began an investigation into the murder alongside local police.
Based on a tip-off, a team of RAB 3 conducted a drive at Sadarghat and arrested Abu Bakar around 9am on Wednesday.
Briefing reporters at RAB’s Karwan Bazar Media Centre in the afternoon, RAB 3 Commanding Officer (CO) Imranul Hassan said the arrestee had confessed to his involvement in the killing during preliminary interrogation.
As Zidan was younger than Abu Bakar, the latter used to make Zidan clean his clothes and had asked him to begin an illicit relationship with him, which Zidan had rejected, the RAB 3 CO said while quoting the arrestee.
Angered by the rejection, Abu Bakar killed Zidan, he added.
As per his plan, Abu Bakar killed Zidan at around 1:30 am on Monday, while the victim was sleeping. Around 30-35 students were also sleeping on the same floor. Later, Abu Bakar stealthily dumped Zidan’s body into the septic tank and fled.
