'The court granted the five-day remand after New Market police produced the arrestees before the court with a 10-day remand plea'
Police on Monday arrested three people in Dhaka including the poet Shahabuddin Nagari in connection with the murder of businessman Nurul Islam.
Police recovered the body of Nurul Islam from his house on Thursday and later sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for a post-mortem.
Masudur Rahman, the deputy commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told the Dhaka Tribune that Shahabuddin Nagari was arrested from Nikunja, while other two arrestees including Nurul’s wife, Nurani Akter Sumi, and his driver, Md Salim Hossain, were detained from the New Market police station area.
Atikur Rahman, officer in-charge of New Market police station, said a Dhaka court had granted five-day fresh remand to each of the accused.
“The court granted the five-day remand after New Market police produced the arrestees before the court with a 10-day remand plea,” he said.
Nurul’s sister Shahana Rahman Kajol filed a case with the New Market police against Sumi, Shahabuddin and some other unnamed people in this connection.
