A Dhaka court has placed Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Ward Councillor Habibur Rahman Mizan on seven-day remand in a case lodged over Money-Laundering Prevention Act.

A case was file with Mohammadpur police station in Dhaka, Rapid Action Battalion (legal and media wing) Senior Assistant Director Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan said.

Investigation officer and CID inspector Giasuddin produced Mizan before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khayer Jessy and pleaded to place him on 10-day remand yesterday.

Mizan’s counsel however, moved his bail plea, reports BSS.

A RAB team arrested Mizan, councillor of Ward No-32, from Sreemangal of Moulvibazar early Friday. RAB later filed two cases against him under arms and money-laundering acts.

The elite force also recovered a pistol, four bullets, a magazine and Tk2 lakh in cash.

As part of the ongoing crackdown on casinos, RAB members later raided his residence located on Aurangazeb Road in Mohammadpur, and recovered cheques worth Tk6.77 crore, and Tk1 crore in FDR.

RAB sources said the accused amassed huge wealth though illegal activities including running casino in the city. He was trying to flee the country amid the ongoing anti-graft raids.
