Update : 19 Aug 2019, 08:59 PM

The five policemen accused of gangrape at the Government Railway Police station (GRP) are still roaming free,  ten days after the incident. But according to the investigation commission, an investigation is going full speed ahead. Though GRP Officer in charge, Osman, and Sub – Inspector Nazmul, have been closed, no one has been arrested so far.

The councilor of human rights organization, ‘Manobodikar,’ Advocate Md Mominul Islam, who is also representing the victim in court, said: ‘‘ After the submission of case documents, it’s unfortunate that the criminals are still roaming free. In a rape case, the accused can be jailed even though they may be government personnel.

The rape victim’s brother-in-law said she was apprehended by OC Osman Gani around 7 pm on August 2, at Khulna railway station on allegations of stealing a mobile phone.

On August 3, police brought her before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court for a drug case, with five bottles of phensedyl. The court sent her to jail on the day.

When the woman was in court for her bail hearing, she said OC Osman Gani and four other policemen raped her in turns.

To verify her statement, the court ordered a medical checkup for her at Khulna Medical College and Hospital (KMCH).

The next day the woman underwent a medical test and the report was yet to be available.

The victim’s family said OC Osman demanded Tk1 lakh on August 2 to free the woman from their custody.

The OC has denied the rape allegations, saying: “The woman cooked up the story to avoid the drug case.”
