A Dhaka court has sent Sub-Inspector Mahmudul Hasan, nephew of suspended Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Mizanur Rahman, to jail after rejecting his bail petition in a case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Dhaka Senior Special Judge KM Imrul Kayes gave the order after SI Mahmudul surrendered before the court and filed a bail petition on Thursday.

Earlier, the ACC filed a case against DIG Mizanur Rahman and three of his family members, for amassing TK3.28 crore in illegal wealth.

Others accused in the case include DIG Mizan’s wife Sohelia Anar Ratna, his younger brother Mahbubur Rahman Swapan, and nephew police Sub-Inspector Mahmudul Hasan.

On July 1, the High Court ordered Sub-Inspector Mahmudul Hasan to surrender in 72 hours.

Last year, the ACC launched a probe into the wealth of DIG Mizan, after he was relieved of duties following allegations of torturing a woman.

On June 10, the ACC suspended the-then investigator, director Khandaker Enamul Basir, for leaking the probe report to DIG Mizan.

On June 20, a Dhaka court ordered to confiscate assets, and freeze bank accounts of DIG Mizan.
