On July 3, family members claimed that Farhad Mazhar had been kidnapped by unknown miscreants
Columnist Farhad Mazhar’s wife on Thursday rejected the investigation report by Detective Branch (DB) that found no proof that Mazhar was abducted, and sought time to file a no confidence petition in this regard.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Khurshid Alam adjourned Thursday’s hearing until January 9 and asked Mazhar’s wife Farida Akhter to place the petition on that date.
Earlier on November 14, DB Inspector Mahbubul Islam, also investigation officer of the case, submitted the final report to judges of the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court, stating that they did not find any proof of abduction.
The final report also urged the court to take action against Farhad Mazhar and his wife Farida Akhter for filing a false abduction case, under Section 109 and 211 of penal code.
The court then fixed December 7 for the next hearing.
On July 3, family members claimed that Farhad Mazhar had been kidnapped by unknown miscreants from Adabar in Dhaka in the early hours of the day.
Later, police found him on an inter-district bus at around 11:30pm on the same day, while he was returning to Dhaka from Khulna.
Subsequently, the case was transferred to the Detective Branch of police.
