An investigator has asked a Dhaka court to allow him to start legal proceedings against political commentator Farhad Mazhar for allegedly committing perjury and his wife Farida Akhter for supposedly aiding and abetting a staged abduction which resulted in unnecessary harassment of law enforcement agencies.
Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Mahbubul Haque, the investigation officer of Farhad’s case, made the plea on Tuesday when he submitted the final report on the sensational abduction case with Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court.
In his report, the DB inspector also mentioned that his meticulous investigation into the alleged abduction yielded no result.

He urged the court to take action under Section 109 and 211 of Bangladesh Penal Code against Farhad and Farida for filing a false abduction case.
The court fixed December 7 for next hearing.
On the morning of July 3 this year, Farhad went out for an early walk and, after a while, phoned his wife telling her that he had been kidnapped and that the abductors were demanding Tk35 lakh as ransom.

Later at night, he was rescued from Abhaynagar upazila in Jessore and brought back to Dhaka.
The following day, Farhad testified before Judge Ahsan Habib of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
