Orbis, world’s only flying hospital, lands in Chittagong

The world's only hospital in the air, Orbis Flying Eye Hospital, landed in Bangladesh on Thursday

Orbis Flying Eye Hospital, the world’s only hospital that provides medical checkups and training sessions onboard, arrived at Chittagong’s Shah Amanat International Airport on Thursday.

The hospital will provide free medical services to patients and train medical staff in the aircraft from November 19 to December 4.

According to a press conference held on Friday in the city, the hospital has come to Bangladesh following an invitation from the Health Ministry, with the support of National Eye Care, and Chittagong Eye Hospital.

This is Orbis’ 10th visit to Bangladesh – and fourth to Chittagong – since 1985.

The hospital will train 315 eye specialists, nurses and biomedical technicians in eight countries. Apart from this, 200 eye patients will be screened at Pahartali Eye Hospital, while 120 patients will undergo surgery.
