A Dhaka court on Tuesday ordered recording of testimony of a student of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College’s Bashundhara branch in a private room (camera trial) who fell victim to sexual abuse by her teacher, Parimal Joydhar.

Judge Md Arifur Rahman of the Women and Children Repression (Prevention) Tribunal 4 gave the order upon a petition and fixed July 4 for the camera trial.

Victim’s counsel Zillur Rahman Talukder filed the petition citing that she was a student and unpleasant questions might rise at the courtroom which would be harmful for her and also the family members. So she needed the camera trial for deposition and cross examination.

The accused was present on the dock during the hearing. Parimal made confessional statement before a court on July 11, 2011.

So far, three prosecution witnesses, out of 40, gave deposition in the case.

According to the case, Parimal on May 28, 2011 forcefully harassed the girl sexually in his coaching centre and recorded with his mobile phone. He threatened the girl by saying that he would have spread the video and photos in the internet if she shared the matter with someone. Parimal allegedly abused her again on June 17.

Later, the girl complained in written to the school authorities but some teachers and its former principal Hosne Ara Begum tried to save the accused.

However, after days of agitation by the students, the school’s governing body sacked Parimal on July 5.

The same day, the victim’s father filed the case with Badda police station accusing Parimal, the school’s Bashundhara branch head Lutfur Rahman and the principal.

Detectives arrested Parimal from one of his relatives’ house at the city’s Keraniganj on July 7.

Mohammad Shahadat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Badda Police Station and also the investigation officer of the rape case, submitted the charge sheet on August 11, 2011 dropping the names of Hosne Ara and Lutfur Rahman.

The court framed charges against Parimal on March 7 last year.

Hosne Ara later stepped down while the Bashundhara branch head was removed from his position. He is now serving as a regular teacher at the branch.
