Jagannath University Chhatra Dal held a protest rally demanding the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved in the brutal murder of a businessman in Old Dhaka.

The demonstration was organized on Saturday afternoon, as part of a centrally announced program by the Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal (BNP’s student wing). The university unit of Chhatra Dal led the protest.

The rally began at the university’s Kathaltola area, moved through the entire campus, reached Raysaheb Bazar intersection, and concluded with a brief rally upon return.

Speaking at the rally, JnU Chhatra Dal Convener Mehedi Hasan Himel said: “What happened in Chawkbazar is beyond imagination in any civilized society. We demand the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved in this heinous killing.”

He added: “Additionally, a Jubo Dal activist was murdered in Khulna by severing his tendons. In another incident, a 74-year-old imam was fatally attacked inside a mosque simply because someone didn’t like his khutbah. He died today. We demand justice for all these killings.”

He also said: “A criminal is a criminal, regardless of party affiliation. As believers in nationalist ideals, we want a fair investigation and the maximum punishment for the perpetrators, so such events are not repeated.”

Member Secretary Shamsul Arefin said: “The government has failed to ensure the safety of people’s lives and property. Criminals are emboldened by political shelter and support. We strongly demand the immediate arrest and strict punishment of those responsible.”
