At least one person was killed in police firing during the declaration of the results of the Azimpur union parishad election in Birol upazila in Dinajpur.
The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Ali, 70. He hailed from Shingul Dangapara village.
The body has been kept at Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital.
According to witnesses, there was a dispute between the law enforcers and the locals centering on the announcement of the results at the Singul Hamid-Hamida High School centre in Azimpur union.
Supporters of one of the member candidates hurled brickbats and police resorted to charge batons to disperse the locals. Later, they fired 60 to 70 rounds of tear gas shells and bullets -- injuring six people.
Several policemen were injured in the brickbat pelting, said Superintendent of Police of Dinajpur Shah Iftekhar Ahmed.
