Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain Bakul on Wednesday said he does not believe Ad-Din Medical College Hospital will receive legal relief over the deaths of six newborns, which he described as a result of negligence.

Speaking at a press briefing at the Secretariat, the minister said the judiciary would examine the matter based on evidence and the law.

"I know judges do not deliver verdicts based on emotion. Six children died due to negligence. I do not think they will get relief," he said when asked about the possibility of legal relief in the absence of postmortem examinations.

The minister said the government would take the highest possible action against the hospital based on the findings of the investigation report.

However, he noted that the absence of postmortem examinations could create legal complications.

"Since the autopsies were not conducted, the hospital authorities may be able to take advantage of certain legal provisions," he said.

Describing the incident as tragic, Sakhawat Husain said the deaths had raised serious concerns about negligence in healthcare services.

He also referred to a report by Rajuk, claiming the facility was an unauthorized structure.

The minister said the investigation report was expected to be submitted later in the day and assured that the government would take appropriate action based on its findings.
