Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury has said that there will be no separate BMT card if the proposed "expatriate card” is introduced.
Speaking at a briefing on Tuesday, at the ministry conference room, he said: “Why have so many cards? We are working towards a system where all facilities can be accessed through a single card.”
The minister said that not only remittance earners but also Bangladeshis living abroad in Europe, Latin America and other regions will be eligible to apply for the card.
The system will function like a credit card, with a dedicated cell for applications and verification. “After verification, if someone is eligible, they will receive the expatriate card,” he added.
He further said that the benefits associated with the card have not yet been finalized.
“We are considering currency facilities, incentives for sending remittances more easily, banking gateway integration, digital identity, and tracking features,” he added.
