The body of Bangladeshi student Jamil Ahmed Limon, who was murdered in the US state of Florida, has been sent to Bangladesh from Orlando International Airport after completion of all legal formalities.

The flight carrying his remains is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka at 8:40am on Monday.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the matter in a statement issued on Sunday.

According to the statement, Limon’s body was sent from Orlando International Airport on Saturday evening. Bangladesh Consul General in Miami Sehely Sabrin was present at the airport and supervised the entire repatriation process. The body is being transported to Bangladesh via Dubai.

Limon’s mutilated body was recovered on April 25. In connection with the incident, US police arrested his roommate American citizen Hisham Saleh Abugharbieh.

Limon, 27, and another Bangladeshi PhD student Nahida Sultana Brishti, 27, had been reported missing on April 16 from the University of South Florida. A friend notified university authorities the following day.

According to prosecutors, Limon had multiple stab wounds and had been restrained. Authorities recovered his body on April 24 from beneath a bridge using mobile phone location data and vehicle GPS tracking. Brishti’s body was later found in a nearby water body on April 26.

A SWAT team subsequently arrested the suspect from his parents’ residence. He has been remanded in custody without bail. Logan Murphy, a judge in Hillsborough Hillsborough County, has ordered that the accused must not contact the victims’ families or any witnesses.

Limon’s namaz-e-janaza was held on April 30 at the Islamic Society of Tampa Bay Area. The service was attended by his classmates, relatives, representatives of the Bangladesh Consulate General in Miami, members of the media, and the local Bangladeshi community.

Meanwhile, in a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that consent has been obtained from the victim’s family to repatriate Brishti’s body. The Pinellas County Medical Examiner has been requested to release the body to the same funeral home. The Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, DC, and the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Miami are working in coordination to ensure the body is returned to the country at the earliest possible time.
