Newly appointed Attorney General Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal on Sunday warned that some law officers at the Attorney General’s office are allegedly involved in commercial and unethical activities, and action will be taken against them following a proper investigation.
He made the remarks to journalists on his first day in office.
The new attorney general began his duties at around 11 am with prayers alongside senior lawyers.
Responding to questions, Barrister Kazal said that while he personally supports BNP ideals, political affiliation will not influence his work as attorney general.
“I will work for the state and the people, remaining impartial. No lobbying or corruption will be tolerated under my watch,” he added.
On the issue of information flow, he emphasized, “I believe in free access to information, but caution is needed to prevent the spread of misinformation, including AI-generated content.”
Regarding media access to the Supreme Court, he said he would discuss lifting restrictions on journalists’ entry with the Chief Justice, expressing confidence that his request would be considered.
The attorney general also shared his vision for the legal profession, stressing the importance of ensuring that justice is not obstructed. He added that he aims to help young lawyers quickly complete the Bar Council examinations and achieve their goal of becoming practicing attorneys.
Barrister Kazal’s statements reflect a commitment to transparency, impartiality, and institutional reform within the Attorney General’s office.
