Update : 30 Jun 2015, 08:50 AM

The officials of Customs Intelligence have arrested two persons in Dhaka for their suspected involvement with the cocaine consignment haul in Chittagong port.

Identities of the arrestees could not be ascertained yet, said customs Intelligence in a text message on Tuesday.

Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation has confirmed existence of liquid cocaine inside a container of sunflower oil at the Chittagong port.

After conducting a final test on June 27, the officials became certain of the cocaine’s existence, however, suggested further tests be done at more specialised laboratories in the neighbouring countries to find out the exact amount.

Director General of the Customs Intelligence Dr Mainul Khan told the Dhaka Tribune: “The sample test done by Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and Bangladesh Drug Testing Laboratory found around 60 kilogrammes of cocain worth Tk360 crore inside a drum in the container.”

The contraband item was found inside one drum out of 107 in the container, said CMP Detective Branch Additional Deputy Commissioner Tanvir Arafat.

“Each of the drums carried around 200 litres of oil but drum number 96 carried 185 litres of cocaine,” he said.
