Seven men have been held while mugging a rickshaw passenger in Chittagong's Lalkhan Bazar area on Friday.
Kotwali police station Sub-Inspector Md Mofiz Uddin said the seven arrested are Rafiqul Islam, 22, Md Sajjad Hossain, 20, Prince Shubho Das, 19, Selim Hossain Opu, 22, Md Sabuj, 22, Md Mainuddin Raj, 19 and Nurunnabi Hossain Tuhin, 19.
Around 5am, they barred an Agrabad-bound passenger Saiful Islam near the east gate of Jamiyatul Falah Masjid and tried to snatch away valuables from him showing weapons.
Saiful had arrived in Chittagong from Comilla Friday morning.
Hearing his screaming, a police team patrolling nearby, chased the seven muggers and caught them with four cleavers, one mobile phone set and Tk1, 000.
A case was filed in this connection, said the SI.
