An activist of the United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) was shot dead in Buddadhan Karbari Para, Guimara upazila, Khagrachhari yesterday morning.
Officer-in-Charge of Guimara police station Muhammad Mustafizur Rahman said a group of miscreants numbering four to five had attacked Ranjan Chakma, 50, son of Namiya Chakma of Hazachhara, Laxmichhari upazila, at his Buddadhan Karbari Para’s residence around 9:30am and shot him from a close distance.
Police rushed to the spot and recovered the body. The body was later sent to Khagrachhari Adhunik Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
District Press Secretary of the UPDF Niron Chakma blamed their rival Parbattya Chattgram Jana Sanghity Samity (PCJSS) for the killing and urged administration to arrest the killer.
But Assistant Press Secretary of the PCJSS Sajib Chakma denied the allegation. He said his party’s men were not involved in the killing.
